So a scam can actually be useful (part 1)

At the request of my beautiful cousin, I'm going to go through a basic run of how I got involved in trading, how trading works, and what you need to do to make money.

Early in the summer, the same person I mentioned in an earlier post also accompanied me to a 'free seminar on Forex trading', presented by a group called 'Knowledge to Action'. We arrived at a glamorous hotel, where the seminar was being held. It had an open plan lounge area, plush leather sofas and a fully stocked bar. I almost felt out of place in such a nice setting. Someone was trying to impress, and immediately my scepticism began to grow.

(I love this picture)
Once the seminar started, we were introduced to Gurdas Singh, and were told that we were actually incredibly fortunate to have him speak to us today because he never, EVER does seminars. Mr. Singh then delivered THE most rehearsed, mistake free presentation that I have ever seen, with a fully integrated powerpoint presentation and without ANY notes. It was about three hours long.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say that Mr Singh's claim that he never did presentations was a lie. In fact, it is confirmed by an article, where he is described as Knowledge to Actions 'most empowering speaker'. This guy!

Disappointed
Mr Singh then went on to tell us about his amazing success story. Trading brought him so much success that he left University as he was making more than his lecturers. How he could buy whatever he wanted, working just a few hours a day - and also that WE could also earn similar amounts by entering the Forex world. The seminar then described how the Forex Market worked, and how easy it was to earn money by eliminating the ability to make big losses (which is actually partially true).

However, the worst was to come. Having presented us with this seemingly easy way to make a fortune, Mr. Singh then said that the way to do this was to sign up to Knowledge to Action's trading University. The cost of this? £15,000. I nearly fell out of my chair.

I started to feel as though all this was a sham. Mr Singh had presented the false pretence that I could earn lots of money like him, just through attending this Traders' University. To make it worse, Mr Singh then said that we were very lucky, as this was actually the last time that he would giving the opportunity for people to sign onto the University, and there were only 6 places left, and because of this he was willing to offer the same package for £2000, and you could bring a friend to learn with you.

By now my Spider senses were going haywire. I felt as if my intelligence was being mocked.

Mr. Money-making, high-flying, car-buying, jet-setting Gurdas Singh (look at his scamming face here) was telling me he was willing to offer me a £15,000 course for £2000 - an 87% discount, which I could bring my friend along to (effectively making it 93% discount). This would guarantee me more money than I could dream of.

So I'm meant to part with £2000 of my hard-earned student loan money, which will probably go into your pocket and contribute to this jet-setting lifestyle that you are currently living??

Does it say 'mug' on my forehead?

This was a classic case of a pyramid scheme. Unfortunately, as I left, a few people did in fact sign up to the 'University', and I'd love to see if they had any return on their investment.

So - why would I, having been presented with what I felt was a scam, decide to actually enter the Forex Market? Find out this, and how the market ACTUALLY works, in part two.

Thanks for reading,

Jr

    2. Over 4 years later and they are still cheating and stealing, now using the name Learn to Trade; me and other guy were victims, paid for the course, unfortunately it's too late. Is any one organising a joint prosecution?
People "must" be aware in upfront, how fraudulent is this scheme. Beginners in trading are in threat, some action need to be taken to stop this Gurdas Singh.

    5. It's 2022 and this guys are still operating. Funny they are still using the same method of giving "free seminar" and later offer the £15,000 course for £2000 - an 87% discount. SCAMS!
      Peace from SA

  7. I went last night. I am a Salesman myself so I knew exactly what the "Sell" was. £7000 course for under £2000. Only 50 people from all over the country could join apparently, and there were only 6 places left as his seminar was the last in the country. I even messaged one of his traders prior to the even to ask about reading material and was outright ignored.

Very very suspicious and utter conmen.

    2. Unfortunately this Mr.Make-money is good scammer, the sales appeal is strong, but he persuade very well, which is sad, because innocent people trying to start trading doesn't know. Learn to trade information and reviews are good, I have never learnt about Knowledge to Action nor Gurdas Singh.
People need to know in advance, spread this information globally. Is there any one to organise it?

  10. I attended the same presentation in Centurion, South Africa. Mr Sidhu offered 50 people a chance to be part of the course but said he only had space left for 26 people. He told us how it was his last day to be in South Africa.
The next day I received an email from them to deposit money into their ABSA account. That's when I got suspicious. Learn to Trade is a big scam.

  11. I attended a seminar in Centurion earlier this year and I agree with all of you the company could do better at hosting their seminars. However being a risk taker I took the chance and payed for their 3 day course which cost me R25 000.00. I must admit I was skeptical as any sane person would be.

However I just completed my course yesterday and I do not regret it one bit. The company has a very professional setup in their S.A office which is situated at The World Trade Center in Sandton Johannesburg.

Our presenter Andrew was very knowledgeable and provided us with 5 trading strategies using the SmartCharts software and also taught us how to look for signals to place trades and what to stay away from. I cannot state enough the wealth of knowledge I've gained from being there.

On the 3rd day we were on the trading floor and placed live trades with Andrew and he used the Brexit situation to coach us on how to behave in a volatile market (that was invaluable).

I admit that their hard sell tactics can drive anyone away however I have been to many life coaching seminars in my life which use similar tactics to sell their programs however this does not take away from the value of their products. They just know that they are in it to make money and they go for it.

So I paid 25K and for that
I got the 3 days + 3 coaching sessions after the course.
I also got SmartCharts software with 5 trading strategies. I got a discounted brokerage account with Capital Index (google them)
Lastly I also have unlimited lifetime access to the coaches and traders through SmartCharts resources.

For me that is a good return on investment but that's just my opinion.
While I understand skepticism around Learn To Trade (my first reaction as well), after what I experienced this weekend I don't regret my decision especially since I had 2 winning trades from our day on the trading floor yesterday. Going back next week to start with my post course coaching session 1 on 1 with one of the 3 trading coaches based in the Sandton office.

PS!!! Google Andrew Hewerdine (course presenter and he also built the SmartCharts software)

  15. Hey guys I am a trader myself and that seminar was a full of s*it!!

I went on a seminar this week in London .. I realised that me and my friend were only 2 people there who actually knew how the trading works and what trading is!!! .. I went there to gain a bigger motivation as I am planning to leave my job next month and to concentrate only on my trading career so I thought it is a good choice to widen my hirosons and to hear some new strategies I never heard of ... So from a positive side I can say that this Singh guy is a good motivational speaker he does have a telent to inspire people and I won't deny it!!!! This guy knows how to talk that's always a good thing BUT !! .. The way he spoke about stock trading almost made me laugh!!! The story he said sounded like a fairytaile to those around me without trading axperience!!! He said you can make a future from a first month if you only buy their package which include that and that ... :D and people just need to click the button which is flashing green in order to get money from the trade!! Trading is a difficult job you have to work and analyse market in order to get idea how it wokrs it takes time until you can acutally start making some profits! For some people it can take many years .. And every successful trader will tell you that it's not an easy ride .. I actually felt offended that this guy explained trading as a joke! Like its so easy that for £2000 you can build your future only by going to their seminar! He's joker .. Than after he spoke I saw many people who knew nothing about trading were signing in for a 2K course .. But I guess everyone has their own path and everyone has to learn their own lessons .. But just saying you guys my experience from there made me laugh a lot but also inspired me not to give up :D

But never give up!!!! And start playing with fake money first when you see you are good at it make your first deposit in your real trading account ;)

    1. I also attended a seminar in the Philippines and paid the $300 reservation fee. I have decided not to push through but they said I cannot cancel the enrollment. Is that legal? Is their contract really binding even though it's so one-sided? And now they are saying that I need to pay the remaining amount of $1300?! Can you give an update on the status of your protest?

    2. I attended in London, and paid the £500 reservation fee. Likewise, I decided to cancel, but they created scam ways to try to avoid the cancellation. It doesn't look legal because during the seminar they persuade us to make things that break the terms of cancellation, and authorise the , however we are not make aware. Actually, the terms are not presented nor mentioned, only a mere paper of reservation is signed. Next day, when you try to cancel, they make you aware of a contract on the verse of the paper.

I don't know the status, but I think if there isn't a protest, we must create one!!

  18. Attended seminar this weekend. Gurdas Singh presented (claiming he doesn't usually present, as it's normally done by professional speakers). He is a good speaker. Normal price of £7000+vat, but if you signed up to special fast track program at the end of the seminar, the price comes down to £2000+vat. Didn't sound very ethical, but I saw several people signing up. Now that I've read this thread, I'm glad I walked away.
He says he never does the presentations, which is clearly a lie.

  19. Attended today 02/03/2017
The pitch was £6995 course for £1997 with a memory USB stick
Bring your own laptop to training in London
The guy presenting it was doing the selling job for his software capital index claiming it was live demo.
He did a good job though

A couple enrolled ,though he mentioned he could take only 8 people today and rest all were filled!

I don't see any proper feedback on their 2-3 day training in London on the forum

Anyone here who can,yes it's a training course like many others with claim of money back !!

And you may not get what you want !!!!

  20. Attended yesterday in Durban, South Africa. Yesterday's seminar was pretty much everything that was said on this thread. 50 people would be selected for a scholarship. This morning an email giving R24997,00 as the cost of the course. Thereafter, another email giving a discounted price of R17997,00.

  21. I attended a Learn to Trade serminar at the plush Protea Hotel in Hatfield where Mr Gurdas Singh Sidhu was delevering his last presentation in South Africa and would be leaving for London tomorrow. What a presenter he is but fortunately I am a JSE trader and could see if the software is on live or presentation mode. I had my tablet up and running the whole time when he was claiming to do live trade. When he traded on his software the GBP to Rand was R16.2708 but when I did the live feeding on the markets through my tablet Rand was trading at R15.6823 at 19:30 on the 16th March 2017. This is a huge margin that is almost 60c difference to his so called live trading with real time market update.

Brothers and sisters do not spent spend your hard earned cash yet... do your research first.

Maybe I am too sceptical, if you have already earned something through this Learn to Trade platform let me know. R89 000 is a lot of money... well any money is lot of money.

  22. I attended their seminar on the 8th March in Reading. Gurdas Singh was presenting again, which he seems to be doing an awful lot for someone who doesn't present!!

The seminar went exactly how described in the posts above and they had apparently ran a pilot programme in SOUTH AFRICA which they were replicating here in the UK. The Reading workshop was apparently the final presentation to fill the 50 places, so good to see an additional seminar ran later in March in Hatfield...

I'm also a salesman by trade to noticed the techniques they used throughout the session. I decided to do some research and have stumbled across this thread. I've read numerous posts before this which all echo the same feedback. Below is the most damning evidence that I've found so far:

One "client" who actually attended their programme lost £20,000 and is now looking to pursue legal action against them: http://www.justanswer.com/uk-law/7a6pb-hi-student-knowledge-action-signed.html?rpt=1022

Greg Secker, CEO of Learn to Trade and Knowledge to Action is also the sole CEO of Capital Index which is their preferred brokerage. Both companies are registered to the SAME ADDRESS. Both companies show as DORMANT on Companies house with most recent accounts showing a balance of £1!!

Please spread and share this to help prevent others falling foul of this scam.

  24. Hello Everyone,

First of All, Thank God! I came across this forum.

I went to one of the LearnToTrade seminars today in Stratford London. The seminar was held in Holiday Inn hotel.

There were 15 of us attended in the seminar. The presenter's name Gurdaas Singh Sidhu from Luton. He claimed that he has been trading for last 10 years. He came from a middle class family and always wanted to do better in terms of finance etc. By age of 26 he bought his dream car Bentley (showed picture). He helped his parents to pay off mortgages and travelled so many places(again pictures shown) In a nutshell, just by trading his lifestyle completely changed. I understand, in a way all these possible by either trading or scamming people. I am in very much doubt, under which category he falls into.

I asked myself, if the man is very rich why does he need to spend 3 hours all around his places to give lectures in the seminar.

Knowing most of us who attended in the seminar are not financially "stable" as him,yet he expect us to pay £6995 for 3 days coach in Chelsea Harbor. Although he reduced the price to £1995 but without any solid proof - no one should spend their money. Whatever you going to pay, it will be probably like paying for 3 days holiday.

He showed us how to trade using his software and only talk highly about the profit and didn't mention much about loss which is possible. Only time he mentioned about loss was like out of 10 trades there will be 1 or 2 loss.

Also I was told he was going to show some strategies which was barely how to use the software when currency rate going up and down etc. Nothing major.

At the end of the seminar, he mentioned this was his last seminar and he had six spots available for live trading training.

    Thats all really.

For me, he seemed like a salesman who has been doing this for a long time and selling autotrader software for a price of £1995. But I haven't found anyone yet who actually has been successful with his software.

Also, LearnToTrade website does not seem professional to me. Lack of content and lack of information. The website is just a portal to gain your personal information so they can bug you later to join and direct you to a free seminar which obviously has a nasty catch.

So my advice to u, do not spend ur hard earned money without knowing everything.Be cautious and check reviews before giving your money to any organisation.

  25. I’ve just come out of his seminar with the same story told 6 years ago! I’ve had a close shave as I was about to enrol but luckily for me I decided to ask one of his support staff what their last year turnover was . Guess what she just said a lot which I decided to check on companies house. It’s a dormant company! I challenged the Singh fellow & I would see confidence ebb away from his face. I just wish action get taken against the fellow!

  26. Funny. I went to this seminar recently, nd the exact same story was presented.

4% a month, sounds rather fetching, don't you Think? - only £1,997 for a limited time, as there are only a few spaces left. Oh, and this was discounted from £7,000. Also, you have to pay a subscription of £89 a month.

What was interesting was that Mr. Singh slipped up slightly... The fact that he said "We find our clients typically recover their fees within 3/4 no the of trading... which would mean they would need a starting pot of around £15,000. Not many people have £15,000 plus £2,000 (£17,000) to spend on a course, like this.

Additionally, Mr. Singh mentioned borrowing money from family members etc... and to recruit others into your investment (i will mention more about this later) Also, wouldn't accept any questions throughout the seminar "I will answer questions at the end".
Then when the end approached, he put on a sound track that we all walked in too and walked to the back of the room... stating that there were only several (5) positions that remained open out of 20 odd... easily there were around 25 in the 'seminar'.

I have checked and they are not FSA regulated. Also, considering the pitch is the same for a number of years I am going to say this is a pyramid scheme.

Just for clarity, pyramid scheme by definition; ' a form of investment (illegal in the UK and elsewhere) in which each paying participant recruits two further participants, with returns being given to early participants using money contributed by later ones".

Learn to Trade directly tells you to 'recruit' - manage other people's wealth and receive payments (as do they), even though you essentially have no clue what you're doing...

Therefore, it is a pyramid scheme, they company will deny such comments, by stating they are an educational company... but the truth remains that they are scamming people.

    Conclusion:
Do not sign up to this seminar. It is designed to make you think that getting rich really is as easy as a traffic light system (which they have installed into their software). Some may make money, which I congratulate them on. But ultimately, trading without an adequate understanding/education on macroeconomics is speculation, not investing, one in 100 may make money, but you will not make the £2,000 a month or 4% monthly they're talking about without sufficient education in this subject. If you have no interest in economics, trading is not for you.

    Be warned.

  27. I kind of disagree with you. I went to their workshop in Manchester and I found it informative. I learned a few basics and honestly, for a free workshop, it’s well worth it. I don’t see how they could be a scam, I mean, no education is free, come on. If you buy in on their program, that’s your decision.
